General Description |
Ethyl 1,1,2,2-tetrafluoroethyl ether, also known as "Sevoflurane," is a highly fluorinated compound used as an inhaled anesthetic during surgery or procedural sedation. It is colorless, liquid, and sweet-smelling at room temperature. This chemical is non-flammable and has a low potential for biotransformation. It is rapidly eliminated from the body and has significantly less impact on the environment than other inhalational anesthetics. Biotransformation of sevoflurane in the liver is minimal (usually less than 5%), leading to a low incidence of hepatotoxicity or nephrotoxicity. However, it may cause respiratory depression, hypotension, nausea, and vomiting, and needs to be administered under the supervision of a healthcare professional. |
